Funtastic Acrylics    

This course will introduce fellow artists to some very creative ideas with acrylics.

Be prepared to scrape, spray, fling, throw, roll and glaze PAINT, in other words "PLAY WITH ACRYLICS" , and leave the workshop with a greater understanding of acrylics and a new found confidence.

Subjects will be Local Buildings, Lorikeets, Emus and Water Lilies . You are welcome to bring your own ideas to the workshop.

The work will be Abstract to impressionistic Fun and Free.

Materials List

ACRYLIC PAINTS (Any good brand) Atelier, Matisse, Daler-Rowney 3D or CRYLA (These are lovely and buttery) Jo Sonja’s (These are very flowy.) -

  • Mars Black,
  • White,
  • Naples Yellow,
  • Jaune Brilliance.
  • Cad Red,
  • Cool Red (e.g Naphthol Red )
  • Cad Yellow,
  • Cool Yellow and Lemon e.g Yellow Light Hansa.
  • Warm Blue, (e.g Ultra Blue),
  • Cool Blue (e.g Pthalo Blue)
Transparent Colours -
  • Red Gold,
  • Paynes Grey,
  • Olive Green •
  • Dioxazine Purple,
  • Indian Yellow.

Other favorites like Brilliant Magenta, Brilliant Orange Pacific Blue, Colbalt Turquoise light, Yellow Green, Copper, Pale Gold.

GESSO 250 ml white and a 250ml black (Jo Sonja’s) From any hardware store

Sample Pot White DULUX and bold Yellow Base and True Red Base. .

Acrylic Satin Varnish.( Polyurethane) My favorite is Matisse. (Optional)

A small modeling compound and Impasto Gel. (Optional)

Canvas sizes eg 2 @ 60 x 60cm. 1 @ 90 x 45cm. 1 @ 90 x 60cm CANVASES or PAPERS (Any good water colour papers) All primed with one coat of gesso. (Gesso can be applied to the canvas by using an old credit card or tile scraper then by using a large brush to finally spread evenly all over surface.

FLAT BRISTLE BRUSHES Variety of sizes from 6cm down to small sizes. One set of flat gesso bristle brushes (Mont Marte) and other brushes

Other items to paint with scraps of cardboard, Credit Cards, Afro comb, tile scraper, diffuser , Foam Roller (10 cm high density foam) with metal handle (Bunnings)

A Few hard pastels or pastel pencils and willow sticks charcoal for sketching .

A HB soft graphite pencil.

Water pack spray, chux, good size water container. Tissue papers (Shoebox)

Old spice jars or film canisters to make your own liquid acrylics.

Scissors pallet knife, small PVA glue, masking tape, and plastic covering for tables.
