ARTIST'S PROFILE - Penelope Gilbert-Ng
Penelope’s passion to paint started in early childhood. She completed a five-year scholarship at East Sydney Technical College awarded a Diploma in Painting Fine Arts in 1971.
A Director of the Royal Queensland Art Society Inc., 1991-1997. Vice-President RQAS Inc.2005-2006, Acting President 2006, President RQAS Inc. 2006-. A member of the Queensland Wildlife Artist Society, 1991-2000
Member and Master Pastellist of the Pastel Society of Australia. Fellow of the Royal Qld Art Society Inc.Penelope is an experienced workshop teacher and has also been a teacher of ‘the art of drawing, painting with oils, pastels and water colours’ at the Moreton Institute of TAFE from 1991-2000. Also teaching at Art Societies in Beenleigh, Coochiemudlo, Sunshine Coast, Mount Isa and at the Arts Academy in Morningside. Penelope has held workshops in Mount Isa, 1996, Binna Burra Lodge Lamington Plateau, 1997 and Kindilan Redland Bay, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004,Sunshine Coast Art Group, Hinterland Art Group, Oakey Art Group 2006, Pastel Art Society of South Australia 2006, Brisbane Institute of Art 2007- Shall be Teaching Acrylic Landscape/Still Life at Grafton Autumn Artsfest 2008.
While living in Papua New Guinea for 13 years, Penelope held three solo exhibitions, 1974, 1976 and 1986, and was commissioned to paint many of New Guinea’s leading politicians including Sir Michael Somare, Sir John Guise and Sir Barry Holloway. Penelope’s paintings are now held in many private collections worldwide. Penelope is a multi-awarded prizewinner. Scholarship from The Pastel Society of America to study Pastel in New York 2003. Finalist Portia Geach Portrait Prize 1973/1974 and Finalist The Archibald Portrait Prize 1973. 2005- Champion Portrait of the Show EKKA. RNA.
