ARTIST'S PROFILE - Judith Rosenberg

I was trained as a painter in the U.K. at Leeds College of Art with printing as an elective study. But since re-discovering printing (etching) twenty years ago at Studio One in Canberra , I have done more printing than painting. I love the discipline of that art form, the fine line that I can get from this medium and the unexpected image that a finished plate comes up with on first proof! The prints are (usually) Limited Edition three-colour etchings printed on Hahnemule (350gms) paper.

I enjoyed my work as a zoological and botanical illustrator especially during work commissions. I think that is why most of my images are drawn from the natural world and the surrounding exotic, tropical landscape. The subject matter usually remains in part representational. With wonder comes almost pagan acknowledgement of the underlying mystery of the life forces that we live with. There is usually a part hidden motif or underlying flow in the works, which cannot be explained or analysed easily.
